A lymphoma driver called BCL6 suppresses the expression of cell death genes. A new molecule designed at Stanford Medicine blocks its activity and activates downstream genes to trigger cell death.

In a new research report, scientists at Johns Hopkins Medicine say they have developed a technology that allows them to capture a 3D molecular “snapshot” of hundreds of hair follicles as they develop and then reconstruct the fourth dimension — time — to effectively create a stop-motion animation of how this organ forms.   

Interviews with patients hospitalized for heart failure, caregivers, providers, and organizational leaders highlighted several strengths of Mighty Heart (a major clinical trial examining the effectiveness of in home and telehealth-enabled visits from paramedics) that may support its adoption and implementation across health systems, a Columbia Nursing-led study finds.

True Grit, a residential program offered by Rutgers School of Health Professions and RWJBarnabas Health’s Children’s Specialized Hospital, is designed to give youth ages 14 to 21 with spinal cord injuries the tools to confidently enter adulthood.

 

The program, offered since 2024 and unique in the nation, brings together occupational therapists, physical therapists and recreational therapists with clinical experience in spinal cord injury rehabilitation along with peer mentors to provide therapeutic, recreational, social and independence-building experiences designed to teach life skills and build independence.

 

Now, a new study on the program assesses the outcomes of this program based on participants’ goals, resilience and how they participated at home, school and in the community with their injury at the start of the program and three months after.

About the Study: In this cohort study of more than 1 million Medicare Advantage beneficiaries, developing a new complex medical condition was associated with higher disenrollment, particularly to traditional Medicare. Disenrollment increased with the number of new conditions and was higher among beneficiaries living in states with Medigap guaranteed issue and community rating protections.

About the Study: For patients with breast cancer receiving injectable gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist therapy, a home injection model supported by telemedicine reduced treatment burden by improving convenience and saving time for many participants. Most patients who completed home injections chose to continue this approach beyond the pilot. Barriers such as insurance denials and higher copayments for at-home administration may limit broader implementation.

About the Study: After Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, out-of-state travel to North Carolina for abortion care increased, particularly from more restrictive Southeastern states. Patients also presented at later gestational durations and traveled farther for care, indicating increased logistical barriers after policy changes.
