Community scientists bring the voice of South Carolina to cancer research

MUSC Hollings Cancer Center has launched a Community Scientist Program, which brings South Carolinians directly into cancer research. Community scientists recruited from across the state, including educators, survivors and public health advocates, will collaborate with scientists across the research pipeline, from basic science to clinical trials. Through training in cancer biology, study design, community engagement and more, the community scientists help to translate complex science into plain language, identify barriers to participation and ensure studies reflect community needs.
