Korean researchers will begin developing core technologies for cooperative autonomous driving services using heterogeneous vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology. This will overcome the limitations of safety services that have been limited to vehicles equipped with vehicular communication devices and extend safety services to general vehicles and pedestrians, which is expected to bring about a dramatic improvement in the efficiency and safety of road transportation.

Cancer is turning up more frequently in young women. The American Cancer Society shows the incidence rate for women younger than 50 has increased from 51% higher than men in 2002 to 82% higher in 2021. Kimalu (KEE-ma-loo), a 12-year-old female beluga whale, is resting comfortably following a historic procedure at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium. On Tuesday, July 1, Kimalu, who was born at Shedd, underwent a first-of-its-kind surgery to remove a growing network of cysts near her blowhole on her head and neck.  In the process, Kimalu became the first known beluga in the world to recover from general anesthesia.

On Wednesday, 2 July 2025, the Polarstern will set sail from Tromsø, Norway, embarking on an expedition to the Arctic Ocean. Over the next two months, an international research team will analyse the feedback effects between global warming and sea ice retreat in the Arctic Ocean. The investigations will focus on the differences in the melting of various sea ice types – representing the Arctic of the past decades, the present and the future. A parallel airborne campaign will complement the measurements and, at the outset of the expedition, the Polarstern will support the first ice testing of the new French Tara Polar Station research platform.

A joint research team led by Senior Researcher Gyoung S. Na from the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) and Professor Chanyoung Park from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has developed a novel AI method—called DELID (Decomposition-supervised Electron-Level Information Diffusion)—that accurately predicts material properties using electron-level information without performing quantum mechanical computations.
