Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Cifani lab has developed a new mass spectrometry technique that pushes the performance of their instruments to deliver scans that are more sensitive than ever before. Their innovation may improve drug target discovery while helping scientists answer long-standing questions about human health and biology.
Simple pharmaceutical interventions could help older brains cope with memory impairment and recovery after surgery, new studies in mice suggest. In two studies, researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign investigated different aspects of cognitive impairment: postoperative impairment — a relatively common phenomenon among older adults — and age-related memory decline, as well as noninvasive methods of restoring function.
A new AI model designs peptides (short proteins) that are targeted by enzymes called proteases, which are overactive in cancer cells. Nanoparticles coated with these peptides can act as sensors that signal if cancer-linked proteases are present in the body.
