In the first real-world study of lecanemab conducted in China, researchers found that lecanemab shows favorable safety and early effectiveness in Chinese patients with mild cognitive impairment and mild Alzheimer’s disease. Key findings include a lower incidence of adverse reactions, notably amyloid-related imaging abnormalities, cognitive stability after 6 months, increased plasma Aβ42 and Aβ40, and reduced amyloid plaques in the brain, though high dropout rates and absence of a control group warrant cautious interpretation.
Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have uncovered a strategy that triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells use to boost their ability to metastasize, or spread to other organs. Metastasis is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths and scientists are investigating ways to prevent it. These findings highlight new possibilities for developing clinical interventions to treat metastatic TNBC patients for whom there are no specific therapies.

Opioid overdoses continue to take a devastating toll across the United States. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2023, the nation recorded roughly 105,000 drug overdose deaths overall, with nearly 80,000 deaths involving opioids. Worldwide, opioids are also responsible for the majority of drug-related deaths. A University of California San Diego study is working on a potentially life-saving measure that may be as simple as strapping on a smartwatch.
