A new virtual conference will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can help health care providers and scientists efficiently analyze vast amounts of data and make more informed decisions, the Endocrine Society announced today.

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) is hosting a free webinar, “Toward Brain-Based Prediction of Recovery: How Neuroimaging Can Help Combat the Substance-Use Epidemic” on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 2:00 pm ET. The presenter, Sarah W. Yip, Ph.D., MSc, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and the Director of the Yale Imaging and Psychopharmacology (YIP) Lab. The webinar host, Jeffrey Borenstein, M.D., is the President & CEO of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, and host of the public television series Healthy Minds. 

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) will hold the 3rd Japan-India Universities Forum in Delhi, India on October 19, 2024. In the event, we will focus on  promoting Japan-India brain circulation and utilization of its human resources the fields of science, technology, and innovation. Participants from 28 universities, 6 research institute and related organizations, and 5 business corporations in Japan and 34 universities in India will be gathered.

The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation will host its 2024 International Mental Health Research Symposium on Friday, October 25, from 9:30am to 12:30pm EDT, at the Kaufman Music Center, 129 West 67th Street (between Broadway & Amsterdam) in Manhattan. It’s free and open to the public. 

Vanessa Kerry, MD, MSc, will give the keynote address during the Opening Session of the annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) on October 6 in Boston, speaking on the severe current state of climate change and its impact on health.

The UNESCO Chair Aid4GEA on Technologies and Materials for Green and Energy Applications has just been established at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy and at the Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. The chair holder is Prof. Elisa Moretti (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice) and the co-chair holder is Prof. Alberto Vomiero (Luleå University of Technology). It aims to strengthen awareness of the key role of advanced materials and technologies to promote sustainable development, especially in developing countries.

The NRG Oncology NRG-HN005 phase II/III clinical trial did not meet the non-inferiority criteria to proceed to the phase III portion of the study. The phase II portion of the NRG-HN005 evaluated two experimental treatment arms against a control arm for patients with p16-positive (p16+, accepted as a surrogate for HPV+ status), locoregionally advanced oropharyngeal cancer.

The addition of the cancer immunotherapy drug atezolizumab to the standard of care concurrent chemoradiation (cCRT) did not improve overall survival for patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC) in the second planned interim analysis of the NRG Oncology/Alliance NRG-LU005 clinical trial.
