As scientists gather in Salt Lake City for this year’s ESA Annual Meeting, many presentations will focus on the ecological challenges and opportunities facing the Intermountain West.

Will explore innovative approaches to mental health and new frontiers in healthspan, longevity science, and personalized care during  Aspen Ideas: Health and the Aspen Ideas Festival.

Winterthur, 10 June 2026 – The roads, railways, and waterways that Europe uses to transport goods and people are deeply interconnected. But they often behave as separate systems. The EU-funded MOVEO project wants to find better ways to integrate these systems to make transport safer, more efficient and more reliable.

The third annual Cleveland Discovery and Innovation Forum, hosted by Cleveland Clinic and IBM, highlighted progress in applying quantum computing and AI to healthcare and life sciences research. The forum brought together global leaders in healthcare, science and technology to share insights into how advanced computing is accelerating discovery and shaping the future of patient care.

The one-day event, held today on Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus, featured more than 30 speakers from academia, industry, foundations, venture capital and government.

On 11 June 2026, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) in Adlershof hosted the launch of ASCEND (Accelerated Solutions for Catalysis using Emerging Nanotechnology and Digital Innovation). The event took place in the presence of the Minister of Research, Dorothee Bär, President of the Helmholtz Association, Prof. Dr. Martin Keller, and President of the Max Planck Society, Prof. Dr. Patrick Cramer. Bringing together leading partners from industry and research, ASCEND is supported by BMFTR with €30 million in funding and officially started on 1 April 2026. The initiative aims to accelerate the discovery of next-generation catalysts and enable more sustainable chemical processes.

Professor Sir Andre Geim, Nobel Laureate and Chair Professor in the Department of Physics under the Faculty of Science at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), delivered his inaugural lecture titled "Random Walk to Graphene" on 9 June. Held at the Grand Hall of the Lee Shau Kee Lecture Centre, the lecture delved into how simple curiosity—and a willingness to embrace the unexpected—led to one of the most groundbreaking discoveries of our time. The event drew an audience of about 800 participants, spanning academic, policy, practitioner and student communities.

The 23rd World Congress of Soil Science, often regarded as the “Olympics” of the soil science community, opened in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Held from June 8 to 12 under the theme “Soil and the Shared Future of Humankind,” the congress marks the first time in its nearly 100-year history that this premier global academic event in soil science has been hosted in China.

Registration is now officially open for media representatives, bloggers, and freelance communicators to attend the 46th COSPAR Scientific Assembly in August 2026. The event will gather over 3,000 global experts to unveil and discuss the latest groundbreaking discoveries shaping the future of space research
