The Federation of Pediatric Organizations (FOPO) is pleased to announce that Robert (Bob) Vinci, MD, has been named the recipient of the 2026 FOPO Joseph W. St. Geme, Jr. Leadership Award.

 

This prestigious honor recognizes Vinci’s visionary leadership as a clinician, educator, mentor and institutional builder whose sustained system-level contributions have reshaped pediatric education, pediatric workforce policy and access to care for vulnerable populations. Vinci, professor of pediatrics at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine and a member of the Department of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center (BMC), is widely recognized as an innovative leader, educator and mentor who has guided hundreds of trainees over his over four-decade career.

An international group of literacy education experts are calling on teachers and parents to adopt a new framework for teaching critical consciousness in children through the way they learn to view the books they read.

In Ontario, primary care home visits, which help older adults who are homebound or have difficulty getting to a clinic, increased during the 2010s but declined after a 2019 policy change reduced payment incentives and the COVID-19 pandemic began. This study examined how primary care home visits for adults aged 65 years and older changed from 2014 to 2024.

An audit of U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) public databases found that nearly half of routinely updated federal health surveillance systems had stopped or delayed updates in 2025, raising concerns that gaps in data, particularly on vaccinations and respiratory diseases, could undermine clinical guidance, public health policy, and public trust.

About The Study: This study found that universal pre-kindergarten (UPK) may be associated with reduced child protective services (CPS) involvement, particularly for child neglect, and may help mitigate racial and ethnic disparities in CPS involvement. Reductions in child neglect associated with UPK could benefit children’s health and well-being in the short- and long-term; these findings offer insights for policymakers and advocates regarding broader benefits associated with UPK.
