Boston Children’s Hospital today announced that it has received a grant of $7.5 million from Aligning Research to Impact Autism (ARIA) to support its role in the Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC) for the Innovative Medicine and Precision Approaches to Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Network, an international network of sites designed to accelerate clinical trials for individuals with autism, both with a known rare high-penetrance genetic etiology and those with profound autism without a genetic cause identified.

Wastewater contains a hidden wealth of information about the communities that produce it. During the Covid-19 pandemic, sewage monitoring for viral RNA became a key tool for tracking outbreaks. TU Delft researcher Martin Pabst and his team are now expanding this concept with a new method that enables large-scale monitoring of human health and microbial activity through wastewater.

Global study to evaluate whether dengue outbreaks can be anticipated earlier

Now, researchers from the US and Australia are launching a field evaluation in Vietnam to see whether a new early-warning platform can support earlier interventions against a disease that WHO says puts nearly half the world’s population at risk. Called E-Dengue, this open-source, user-friendly software system is tailored for district-level decision-making.

4 million for study with personalized phage therapy

NU-9 halts Alzheimer’s disease in animal model before symptoms begin

Experimental drug NU-9 shows promise in clearing toxic proteins associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Scientists tested NU-9 in a pre-symptomatic animal model of Alzheimer’s disease. Drug dramatically reduced brain changes that emerge near the disease’s onset. Researchers have hope that NU-9 could act as a potential prophylaxis to prevent Alzheimer's symptoms from appearing.
