Susan Culican, MD, PhD, senior associate dean of graduate medical education at the University of Minnesota Medical School, has been named a 2026-2027 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy Fellow by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) — a prestigious honor that places her among the nation’s top health leaders.

Chikungunya fever, caused by the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), has re-emerged as a significant global health concern in recent decades. A notable event was the largest-ever local outbreak in China in 2025, marking a critical juncture in its epidemiology. Although conventional treatment remains predominantly supportive, the integration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers promising complementary strategies for alleviating both acute symptoms and chronic polyarthralgia. This narrative review aims to consolidate current knowledge on the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and management of Chikungunya fever, with a particular focus on the evidence-based application of TCM. By integrating molecular virology with clinical and epidemiological insights, this review offers a comprehensive perspective on the challenges posed by CHIKV and underscores the strategic imperatives essential for its future management. In conclusion, addressing the expanding threat of CHIKV necessitates a multi-pronged public health strategy that integrates standard clinical and preventive measures with evidence-based TCM therapies, highlighting the urgent need for rigorous clinical trials to globally validate these integrative treatments.

In this study, depressive psychopathology was associated with a greater tendency to be reinforced by a type of social reward on Twitter, in contrast to typical laboratory-based findings of blunted reinforcement learning in depression. These findings suggest potential mechanisms linking social media use to worse mental health or vice versa, and emphasize the importance of studying real-world behavior.

The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) has given a one-year grant to Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine for the continued expansion of the Women Veterans Network (WoVeN), a national, peer support network led by women veterans, for women veterans. Additionally, BWF has provided funding for one year for Strength at Home Couples (SAH-C), a program to enhance intimate relationships and prevent conflict and aggression, including intimate partner violence (IPV), as well as preventing self-harm thoughts and behaviors. Since 2016, the foundation has provided a total of $1.8m to support both programs.

When a child is experiencing a mental health crisis, families increasingly turn to the emergency department for help. While hospitals across Illinois are making progress in caring for these children, they face significant challenges, especially limited access to specialists and long waits for psychiatric care, according to a survey of Illinois emergency departments published in the Journal of American College of Emergency Physicians Open. The surveyed emergency departments also proposed practical solutions, such as investments in mental health staffing, therapeutic activities, and real-time bed tracking for better coordination of psychiatric resources.
