Researchers at Pebble Biotechnology Laboratories have mapped every drug studied in small-rodent models of physical trauma between 1980 and 2020 against its regulatory outcome in humans. Across 5,033 studies and 333 drugs, no new trauma medicine reached approval as a result of that work. A companion systematic review in PLOS ONE reports that 3 of 83 drugs tested in rodent acute injury models achieved first-in-class approval for the tested indication.
