Three students from Lehigh University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering have received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships, one of the nation's most competitive honors for emerging STEM researchers. Their success highlights the impact of a course designed to strengthen scientific communication, proposal writing, and fellowship preparation.

This study develops a replicable Transformative Service Ecosystem for Sustainable Operations Management (TSESOM) model to address research gaps and empower botanic gardens to deliver integrated sustainability, conservation and visitor economy outcomes.

NATO battlefield surgery and trauma training courses, as well as practical and simulation-based programs, were among the first activities hosted by Semmelweis University’s newly established Anatomy & Innovation Center for Education and Research (AICER). Opened in April, the facility provides physicians and healthcare professionals with realistic environments for learning and practicing new surgical and diagnostic procedures before introducing them into patient care. The center aims to improve patient safety and quality of care through advanced technologies and hands-on training.

Schools and universities are increasingly working together to promote teaching and learning. However, it is often difficult to assess whether a partnership is actually working and how to maintain it in the long term. A doctoral thesis completed at Tallinn University offers a new tool for this purpose.

The James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine has a newly endowed division, called the Robert Altman Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery, following a $10 million gift from the Robert and Lynda Altman Family Foundation. The gift supports ongoing research, education and care to support the world-renowned center, which provides less-invasive surgical care to patients of all ages presenting with a range of urological conditions.

How do you preserve one of the world’s rarest animals when so few remain? Researchers created an unprecedented 3D digital archive of the vaquita — the world’s most endangered marine mammal. Using advanced CT and micro-CT imaging, the team captured the skeleton of a female porpoise from 1966, in extraordinary detail, from its overall anatomy to microscopic bone structures. Freely available online, the models provide a lasting resource for research, education and conservation, ensuring this critically endangered species on the verge of extinction can be studied for generations to come.

A new study led by University of Maine researchers and published in The Rural Educator identifies strategies to make it easier for K-12 schools to make outdoor education part of their school curricula and culture. The study examined a rural Maine school that stood out for the breadth of its outdoor learning opportunities. Through interviews with teachers, administrators, parents and community partners, lead author Lauren Jacobs identified several factors that helped make outdoor education successful, including strong community support, collaboration among staff, dedicated outdoor learning spaces and a school culture that valued learning outside the classroom.

In the new book "Nation and Gender in Higher Classical Music Education: Intersectional Perspectives", Swedish researchers describe how some of the most prestigious higher education in classical music in Europe still inform inform both the teaching and the repertoire about male genius and national character. The study focuses on the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music (1875) in Budapest, Hungary; the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (1919) in Tallinn, Estonia; and the Sibelius Academy (1882) in Helsinki, Finland. Their identity is largely based on notions of nation and gender. This can be partly explained by the countries’ ongoing struggles for independence at the time when the academies were founded.
