Grasslands provide critical resources for both humans and animals — but the climate crisis is drying them out. In the Chyulu Hills, Kenya, grassland restoration increases the availability of water and grazing resources, lowering conflicts between humans and wildlife as well as conflict in the local community. The more local grassland was restored, the greater the benefits. However, households led by women still experienced more social conflicts and greater perceived insecurity. The researchers call for greater attention to nature-based solutions, such as African grassland restoration, to help reduce the vulnerability of people to climate change.
