SwRI, UT San Antonio will test technology designed to support extended space missions to Moon, Mars

SAN ANTONIO —September 17, 2025 — Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio) will flight test novel electrolyzer technology to better understand chemical processes associated with bubble formation in low gravity. Designed to solve future space mission challenges, the project, led by SwRI’s Kevin Supak and UT San Antonio’s Dr. Shrihari Sankarasubramanian, is supported by a $125,000 grant from the Connecting through Research Partnerships (Connect) program, which fosters collaboration between the two institutions. It is also supported by the university’s Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design (KCEID) and the Center for Space Technology and Operation Research (CSTOR).

A deep study of TEF/NTBT rotor based on CFD/CSD method

Modern helicopters employ swept, dihedral blade-tip and nonlinear twist to enhance its aerodynamic performance, which also increase manufacturing complexity and induce significant vibratory loads, and thus vibration reduction of NTBT (New Type Blade-Tip) rotors has become a key research focus. Due to the excellent compatibility and quick response, the TEF (Trailing Edge Flap) technology is promising for rotor vibration reduction. Nevertheless, most aeroelastic researches have been focused on TEF technology or NTBT rotor, respectively, the combinations of TEF/NTBT rotor system remain hardly explored. The CFD/CSD (Computational Fluid Dynamics/Computational Structural Dynamics) method is competent to meet this challenge, which can effectively consider the unconventional blade platforms, unsteady flowfields, and structural dynamics. Therefore, the present aeroelastic study on TEF/NTBT rotor based on CFD/CSD method holds significant theoretical value and engineering importance.

Time division multiplexing (TDM) architecture is an important approach to creating sensor arrays for massive scale monitoring. But it is paradoxical for the TDM interferometric sensor array to keep a short delay fiber for high sensing resolution and meanwhile use low sampling rate for practical applications. In this paper, a phase matching sampling (PMS) paradigm is proposed to address the above contradiction.
