Mapping the delayed “conversation” between the world’s oceans
Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research (OLAR)A new study reveals that the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans exchange climate signals on different timescales, forming a dynamic relay system. The Pacific dominates shorter timescales, the Atlantic becomes more influential after about a year, and the Indian and Pacific oceans influence the Atlantic over longer periods. Climate models project these connections will be even stronger with future global warming.

Physics‐informed multimodal learning for snapshot dental spectral reflectance prediction
Higher Education PressAccurate color matching is essential for achieving aesthetically realistic outcomes in dental crown and bridge restorations. Traditional visual methods, however, are often affected by lighting variations and observer subjectivity, which can result in inconsistent color matching, including metameric mismatches under changing illumination. Hyperspectral imaging can provide the spectral reflectance of teeth, but existing spatial-scanning or filter-based systems are typically bulky and time-consuming, limiting their suitability for real-time clinical use. Snapshot hyperspectral imaging captures multispectral information in a single exposure, yet many existing reconstruction algorithms rely primarily on data-driven approaches without explicitly accounting for the underlying physics of image formation, limiting their generalizability and interpretability.

Europe can lower emissions without deindustrializing
CMCC Foundation - Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate ChangeA new CMCC-led study looks at how European industry can decarbonize without deindustrializing, laying out a future pathway that can combine competitiveness and environmental goals. The study finds that energy-intensive industries in Europe can attain both, but only through targeted investments and policies for specific sectors, whilst focusing on importing green intermediate products and maintaining the final part of the supply chain.

A zeolite in room temperature catalysis
Science China PressResearchers embedded isolated iron atoms in the sub-nanometer channels of an MFI zeolite, creating a stable catalyst in which iron sites activated hydrogen peroxide while nearby Brønsted acid sites attracted the target molecule. The catalyst showed rapid peroxidation and exerted effective cytotoxicity against tumor cells.
