The world’s largest annual meeting focused on atmospheric and related sciences, AMS 2025 will be held 12–16 January, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and will highlight the latest scientific and professional advances in areas from extreme weather to environmental health, from cloud physics to space weather and more.

The first eLTER Science conference will take place on June 23-27, 2025 in Tampere, Finland. Scientific sessions will span from Unravelling the mysterious role of groundwater in ecosystem dynamics to Ecosystem restoration, Novel technologies in environmental monitoring, and Integrated observations in the atmosphere-biosphere continuum. Policy-relevant sessions include e.g. Carbon farming and Studying the sustainability of globally embedded socio-ecological systems. Prominent Keynotes will present inspiring talks and the participants will have the opportunity to make either oral or poster presentations. The Conference will also feature a number of interactive workshops on data, arts, co-design of services etc. And last but not least, guided excursions to four interesting sites will be arranged (including Hyytiälä SMEAR II LTER Site, Lammi LTER Site, Seitseminen National Park and Tammela peatland restoration site). Abstract Submission is open by January 17, 2025.

Heart-related side effects of cancer treatment must be addressed as early as possible

The devastating news of a cancer diagnosis understandably makes doctors and patients focus on the cancer itself. However, experts in cardio-oncology from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) emphasise that heart and cardiovascular health must be included as early as possible in the patient’s cancer treatment plan to ensure the best possible outcomes. Due to an ageing population, and a growing number of cancer diagnoses there is also an increasing number of patients with cardiovascular side effects of cancer treatment. To tackle this growing problem, the ESC is launching a new conference on cardio-oncology to specifically target this increasingly important area that overlaps cancer treatment and its associated cardiovascular disease (CVD) side effects. ESC Cardio-Oncology 2025 will take place in Florence, Italy, from Friday, 20 June - Saturday, 21 June 2025.

Flexible hibernation could help hedgehogs adapt to environmental changes

Three clinical trials led by researchers from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center demonstrated significant positive results from novel triplet therapies in the treatment of relapsed or refractory and newly diagnosed leukemias. The results were presented at the 66th American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and Exposition.
