Spatial transcriptomics (ST) shows which genes are being expressed and where within a tissue. Spatial metabolomics (SM), on the other hand, maps the location of metabolites—small molecules produced or used by cells—within tissue. Now, in an important advance, researchers have developed an open, low-cost imaging-based ST platform that can also integrate SM on the same slide.
Chinese researchers have developed a new way to manipulate objects on solid surfaces using specially structured vibrations, allowing particles and other small objects to be confined, moved in circular paths, or rotated without the complex electronic control systems normally required to generate such motion.
The Moon no longer has a global magnetic field, but lunar rocks and soils still contain records of ancient magnetism. Therefore, studying the magnetic minerals in these samples can help scientists understand how the Moon’s magnetic field evolved over time. Recently, researchers examining impact-glass particles containing metallic iron from Chang’e-6 lunar soil samples discovered face-centered cubic γ-Fe—the first time this iron phase has been identified in natural lunar samples.
