Tadashi Isa has been conducting research to elucidate the brain systems of primates, including motor control and decision-making, using molecular biological techniques, as a professor at NIPS from 1996 to 2015. His significant contributions to the field have earned him prestigious honors, such as the Tsukahara Nakaaki Memorial Award and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology Award. After leaving NIPS in 2015, Isa served as a professor at the Graduate School of Medicine at Kyoto University. He has also demonstrated exceptional leadership as the Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine since 2022.
Isa says, " Now, I am returning to NIPS as its director. Since NIPS played a crucial role in shaping my career, I am deeply honored to contribute to its further development. Based on my own experiences, I want to ensure that NIPS remains a place where young researchers can take risks, explore through trial and error, and establish their own scientific paths without fear of failure. Many preceding distinguished scientists have taken their first major steps at NIPS. By fostering this environment, I aim to solidify NIPS as a Center of Excellence, brimming with truly original research. My goal is to maintain a balanced approach between cutting-edge research and collaborative studies at NIPS, ultimately elevating physiological and neuroscience research in Japan to a world-class level."
