Caption
Figure 3 | Experiment observation of rotation freezing and lateral drift. a, Time-lapse images of a triangle particle in a left-handed circularly polarised beam, rotating to a stable angle and then translating laterally, from zero to forty-five seconds. b, Sequential frames of a high-aspect-ratio micro-cylinder under left-handed light, converging to a fixed orientation before drifting laterally, from zero to one hundred and ninety-two seconds. c, Reversal of motion on switching the polarisation from right-handed to left-handed. The rotation angle changes from about seventy degrees to about one hundred and sixty-five degrees, and the optical force flips direction as the angle crosses ninety degrees.
