The production of T cell receptor-modified T cells (IMAGE)
Caption
The production of T cell receptor-modified T cells (TCR-T) begins with the removal of immune cells from the patient's blood via a type of blood washing (apheresis). These cells are then converted and multiplied in the laboratory using genetic engineering. In order to create optimal growth conditions for these cells, the patient receives preparatory chemotherapy before the cells are returned. Finally, the patient is administered the hormone interleukin-(IL)-2, which stimulates the proliferation and activation of the immune cells.
