The elements of microbial diversity comprise of anatomy, composition, biochemical, biology or evolution. It is considered that we only know about 1% of the microbial species available on Earth. Microorganisms may live in all type of environments available on the earth, and some may sustain even at elevated temperatures, more than 100 ° C, as seen in water geysers, black smokers, and oil fields. Some of them are also found in very freezing, and in very high salt, acidic and alkaline water. On an average, one grams of the ground soil contain about a billion of microbes belong to more than thousands of species. Microorganisms influence the whole biosphere in a precise way. They are the key component of the zones wherein sun light cannot reach to the systems. There are chemosynthetic bacteria present in these zones to provide energy and carbon to the other available organisms. A few of them are decomposers that have the nutrient recycling abilities and play a vital role for rotation of minerals in biosphere and environment. Beside of degrading activity, microbes also play an important role via symbiotic relationship with different organism which also affect environment sustainability in various ways. Microorganisms are cost-effective tools for the in-situ degradation of residential, agricultural, and industrial waste available in lithosphere and hydrosphere. Microorganism ability to degrade toxic waste is dependent on the nature of each contaminant. Because many of these polluted sites usually consist of various types of pollutants, so that use of microbial consortium is the best approach to bio remediate all pollutants available in these sites.

Dr. Abdel Rahman Mohammad Al-Tawaha, PhD, is a full professor of plant science. He is the former Head of the Department of Biological Sciences as well as the former director of the Planning, Information and Quality Unit at Al Hussein Bin Talal University, Jordan. He is the author/coauthor of more than 300 publications in plant science in leading peer-reviewed journals and chapters in edited volumes and books on a broad range of development issues. He has also participated in many international conferences as a chair or member of the scientific committees. Dr. Al-Tawaha obtained his Ph.D degree from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
Dr. Arun Karnwal received his PhD in Microbiology from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya of Uttarakhand, India in 2007. He held a faculty position in Doon (PG) Paramedical College & Hospital (2004-2007), Bhojia Institute of Life Sciences (2007-2016) and Lovely Professional University (2016-till date) India. Dr. Arun is currently the faculty in the Dept. of Microbiology at Lovely Professional University, India. Dr. Arun serves as an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Advances in Microbiology from 2018 till date and serves on the Editorial Board of various reputed Scopus/WOS listed journals. He is the president of LPU-Association of Microbiologist of India UNIT from its inception in Lovely Professional University. He is an active member of various scientific societies i.e. Association of Microbiologists of India, Hong Kong Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society, International Association for Agricultural Sustainability, Indian Science Congress, etc. Dr. Arun lab focuses on the bioremediation, biopolymer, antimicrobial products, and bio fertilizer. He has over 30 peer-reviewed research publications in leading journals.
