Butts Fire in California July 7 Update

image: This natural-color satellite image was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Aqua satellite on July 2, 2014. The update from the National Interagency Coordination Center has the Butts Fire at 4,300 acres with 85 percent of the fire contained. Estimated containment date is 7/8. To date nine structures have been lost and there are still structures that are threatened by this fire. Activity of the fire has been minimal for the last few days, however, and the fire has not changed size in the last 24 hours. Actively burning areas, detected by MODIS's thermal bands, are outlined in red. view more
