HONG KONG, October 12, 2026 — NEW HORIZON PRESS LIMITED (“New Horizon Press”), an independent open access academic publisher, has joined the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) as a Voting Member.
NISO is where publishers, libraries and technology providers agree the standards that let scholarly information move between systems. As a Voting Member, New Horizon Press can comment and vote on new and revised NISO standards and recommended practices, place staff on NISO committees and working groups, and vote in NISO Board elections.
NISO’s Voting Members include Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, IEEE, Crossref, ORCID, Clarivate, the Library of Congress and the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
“As a young open access publisher based in Hong Kong, we want our journal workflows to match international best practice,” said New Horizon Press. “Membership gives us a direct part in the discussions and votes that shape standards for metadata, JATS, journal transfers, discovery and accessibility.”
New Horizon Press plans to take part in NISO webinars and education programs and to submit comments during public review and balloting of standards.
What Voting Membership means
Voting Members are the organizations that hold a vote in NISO’s standards process. The membership gives New Horizon Press the right to:
- Name a Voting Representative and an Alternate who comment and vote on every proposed or revised standard and recommended practice.
- Join any number of NISO standards committees and working groups; non-members may nominate one person to one group.
- Propose new standards work items to the NISO community.
- Vote in NISO Board elections and on other governance matters.
- Send all staff to NISO’s monthly educational webinars free of charge, with discounted registration for other events including the NISO Plus conference.
- Be listed on NISO’s membership page and in every standard published while the membership is in good standing.
For authors and readers, the membership means New Horizon Press journals will keep their metadata, article markup and discoverability practices in step with the standards the wider industry uses.
