SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — June 9, 2026 — Jennifer Guida, Ph.D., a former program director and researcher for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is the newly appointed director of HonorHealth Research Institute’s new Division of Institutional Research.

In her new capacity, Dr. Guida will supervise the Research Institute’s expanding clinical trial efforts to provide patients with pioneering treatments — novel drugs, devices and techniques — based on the Institute’s own investigator-initiated research.

“There are a lot of pieces to coordinating these studies to help guarantee consistent, high-quality research with a high degree of scientific rigor; to make sure nothing is overlooked, and make sure support services are put in place to help ensure our studies are successful,” said Dr. Guida, an epidemiologist who helped lead NCI’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences.

Since the HonorHealth Research Institute’s inception in 2005, it’s clinical trials in cancer, cardiovascular, neurological, gastro-intestinal and other areas of research, have mostly been based on the discoveries of private-sector businesses and other outside entities within the national and international medical community.

Now, Dr. Guida will help drive discoveries stemming from the Research Institute’s newly established internal research branches, including its Center for Translational Medicine, its Division of Longevity, Prevention and Interception, its Division of Precision Medicine, and others in development, including a new Behavioral Health branch.

“My experience as both a researcher and a program director lends itself well to this new position,” Dr. Guida said.

Chad Adams, MPH, the Institute’s Chief Operating Officer, praised the addition of Dr. Guida: “HonorHealth Research Institute has entered a new phase of growth where we are increasingly generating our own scientific discoveries and advancing them toward clinical application and market approvals. Dr. Guida’s appointment represents a significant investment in the infrastructure, expertise, and leadership required to support that evolution.

“Her distinguished career at the National Cancer Institute, combined with her deep understanding of research strategy, scientific rigor, and program development, will help accelerate our ability to bring innovative therapies, diagnostics, and prevention strategies to patients,” Adams added. “We are thrilled to welcome her to our team and look forward to the impact she will have on the future of research at HonorHealth.”

Coordinating with collaborators

Discoveries made by the Institute are, in part, the result of new partnerships, such as the Institute’s expanding collaborations with Arizona State University’s new John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, as well as continuing partnerships, such as its work with the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine – Phoenix.

Though most of her work will benefit the Research Institute, Dr. Guida and her staff also will be available to assist investigator-initiated studies for those working throughout the broader HonorHealth network and at ASU.

Specifically, her new division is tasked with sponsor oversight of investigator-initiated studies and providing a full suite of support services to facilitate study start up and conduct.

Dr. Guida earned her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in Epidemiology and completed pre-and post-doctoral fellowships at NCI.

She also holds an MPH (Master of Public Health) in Epidemiology from the University of Colorado.

Summa Cum Laude at ASU

Dr. Guida is no stranger to Arizona, having grown up in Cave Creek and receiving her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from ASU, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude (with highest distinction).

Dr. Guida has earned more than a dozen awards and honors, made more than two dozen presentations at scientific conferences, and has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, including as first author on papers in high-impact scientific journals, including Nature CancerJAMA OncologyJournal of the National Cancer Institute, and SLEEP. Her work has been cited more than 1,500 times.

She also is passionate about improving the healthspan and longevity of cancer survivors and their families, and is interested in conducting survivorship research at HonorHealth.
