BETHESDA, MD – February 9, 2026 | The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine is proud to present the 2026 ACMG Foundation David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award to Benjamin Boros, PhD, at Washington University in St. Louis, for his abstract, “O25 Treatment for AD Disorders: Amplifying Protein Expression with Gene-specific Antisense Oligonucleotides Targeting a Common 3'UTR Motif,” which will be delivered as a platform presentation at the 2026 ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Boros earned his PhD in Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis, where he conducted his doctoral research under the supervision of Timothy Miller, MD, PhD. His work focused on RNA regulation through untranslated regions and epigenetic control in the developing brain. He has a particular interest in developing and applying antisense oligonucleotide strategies that leverage existing RNA regulatory systems to advance gene-targeted therapies. Dr. Boros is currently completing his medical training and plans to pursue residency training in medical genetics, with the goal of establishing a career as a clinician-scientist focused on therapeutic development for rare neurological diseases.

“I am truly honored to accept the ACMG Foundation David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award,” said Dr. Boros. “I owe a debt of gratitude to my mentor, Dr. Timothy Miller, and our entire collaborative team. The progress we are making in this technology will significantly accelerate gene-targeted therapeutics for many rare disorders, including dozens of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions. I am optimistic that our work highlighted here will inspire researchers and clinicians to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in developing effective therapies.”

“Dr. Boros’s research reflects the innovation and translational focus that defined Dr. David Rimoin’s career and legacy,” said Nancy J. Mendelsohn, MD, FACMG, president of the ACMG Foundation. “By recognizing and supporting emerging clinician-scientists like Dr. Boros, the ACMG Foundation continues to foster discoveries that have the potential to meaningfully improve the lives of patients and families affected by rare genetic conditions.”

“The Rimoin family is delighted to announce that Dr. Benjamin Boros is this year’s winner of the Inspiring Excellence Award for his exceptional curiosity, innovation, and dedication to improving the lives of patients with rare neurological diseases. His groundbreaking work in RNA regulation and antisense oligonucleotide strategies, paired with a clear commitment to compassionate clinical care, reflects the very best combination of translational science and humanistic medicine,” said Dr. Ann Garber-Rimoin, Dr. Rimoin’s widow.

The ACMG Foundation David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award honors the legacy of Dr. David L. Rimoin, a pioneer in medical genetics whose mentorship, scientific leadership, and commitment to excellence shaped generations of clinicians and researchers. The award recognizes early-career investigators whose work demonstrates exceptional promise and embodies Dr. Rimoin’s enduring impact on the field of genetic and genomic medicine.

About the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and ACMG Foundation

Founded in 1991, the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) is a prominent authority in the field of medical genetics and genomics and the only nationally recognized medical professional organization solely dedicated to improving health through the practice of medical genetics and genomics. The only medical specialty society in the US that represents the full spectrum of medical genetics disciplines in a single organization, the ACMG provides education, resources and a voice for more than 2,500 clinical and laboratory practice of medical genetics as well as through advocacy, education and clinical research, and to guide the safe and effective integration of genetics and genomics into all of medicine and healthcare, resulting in improved personal and public health.

Genetics in Medicine and Genetics in Medicine Open, a gold open access journal, are the official ACMG journals. ACMG’s website, acmg.net, offers resources including policy statements, practice guidelines, and educational programs.

The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine works to advance ACMG educational and public health programs through philanthropic gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals.
