Reston, VA (June 19, 2025)—New research has been published ahead-of-print by The Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM). JNM is published by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, an international scientific and medical organization dedicated to advancing nuclear medicine, molecular imaging, and theranostics—precision medicine that allows diagnosis and treatment to be tailored to individual patients in order to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Summaries of the newly published research articles are provided below.
How Blood Flow to the Heart Predicts Future Heart Risks
This large study of over 8,000 patients used PET imaging to explore how blood flow to the heart at rest and during stress relates to future heart events. Researchers found that low blood flow at rest may predict heart failure or death, while low stress flow may indicate heart attack risk.
Smarter Brain Scans for Alzheimer’s Detection
Researchers tested a shortened PET scan method to measure tau protein in the brain—key in Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Using just two scan windows with a break in between, this new approach produced results nearly identical to full-length scans, offering a faster, more comfortable option for patients without sacrificing accuracy.
New Imaging Tracer Shows Promise in Cancer Detection
A new PET imaging tracer, 68Ga-LNTH-1363S, was tested in cancer patients and showed rapid tumor targeting with minimal exposure to healthy tissues. High-quality images were achieved within minutes, and no side effects were reported. This promising tracer may improve how doctors detect and monitor various cancers in the future.
