In Disaster's Wake, Novel Computing Techniques Support Emergency Responders (IMAGE)

To assist FEMA with the Carr Fire emergency response in California, ORNL researchers used satellite images and novel computing techniques to rapidly identify and deliver data of nearly 97,000 potentially impacted or vulnerable homes and buildings in Shasta and Trinity counties. ORNL fulfilled FEMA's request in just two days, a task that could take several weeks with conventional methods.
