The inclusion shown is a bit smaller than 1 µm – approximately one hundredth the size of the thickness of a human hair. (IMAGE)

The larger image (left) is a close-up of one of the red garnet crystals on the eclogite. The microscope has zoomed in to this crystal to show a tiny coesite inclusion which proves a subduction depth of more than 90 km. The inclusion is a bit smaller than 1 µm – approximately one hundredth the size of the thickness of a human hair.
