Modelled first aerosol indirect effect arising from the additional Aitken-mode mPOA that the Gantt2011 parameterization omits, shown for two cloud supersaturations and two seasons. Blue shading indicates radiative cooling due to increased cloud albedo. The effect is moderate when averaged over the global ocean but pronounced over biologically productive waters, particularly in the summertime North Atlantic and the wintertime Southern Ocean.
