Periodical cicadas' mass emergences are among North America’s most spectacular natural events. But they soon may be no more, according to a new study led by biologists at the University of Iowa. The video shows a release of 20,000 ciacadas in Johnson County, Iowa to test whether the species could be relocated en masse. The cicadas were eaten up and failed to colonize the new habitat.
