Comparison of cold tolerance (time until loss of equilibrium) among closely related medaka species (IMAGE)
Caption
Using the automated detection system, the researchers measured the time until loss of equilibrium (LOE) under low-temperature stress in closely related medaka species and zebrafish. Japanese Southern medaka (O. latipes) required the longest time to reach LOE, demonstrating the highest cold tolerance. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese closely related species (O. cabaranensis) also showed relatively high cold tolerance, possessing greater cold tolerance than would be expected based on latitude. Different letters (a, b, c) indicate statistically significant differences between groups.
