Experiment Simulation: Detachment of a new skyrmion

Caption

The detachment of a new skyrmion during the process known as “skyrmion shedding” occurs within 10 nanoseconds. The skyrmion (dark spot) at the beginning and end of the process has a diameter of just 100 nanometers. The top image shows picosecond snapshots taken using X-ray microscopy, while the bottom image shows a simulation of the process.
