RV Atlantis launching the research submarine Alvin in the Galápagos in Spring 2023 during expedition AT50-09 funded by the UK NERC and US National Science Foundation. The expedition was led by scientists at the University of Bristol (UK), WHOI, Boise State University (USA), and University of Essex (UK), in collaboration with the Galápagos National Park Directorate (GNPD), Charles Darwin Foundation and Ecuadorian Navy’s Oceanographic and Antarctic Institute (INOCAR). The expedition was funded by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and Natural Environmental Research Council (NERC) in the UK
