Schematic illustration of a hypernucleus (IMAGE)
Caption
Ordinary atomic nuclei are made of protons and neutrons. When one or more nucleons are replaced by strange particles called hyperons, a hypernucleus is formed. This extends the traditional nuclear chart from two dimensions—proton number and neutron number—into a three-dimensional landscape, offering new ways to explore nuclear structure.
