Schematic of liver regeneration after liver injury promoted by ribosomal proteins. P70S6K promotes cyclin D DNA replication and cyclin D protein synthesis and RPS6 promotes cyclin E expression, activating cell cycle progression, and promoting liver regeneration. DEF/UTP25 recruits Calpain3b to degrade protein substrates, and Def-Capn3 leads to protein accumulation in the nucleolus, causing nuclear vacuolization and impaired liver regeneration in mice.
