Comparison images of the same mother-calf pair measured off Maui, Hawaiʻi. Mass lost by this female over 42 days was estimated to be 4.6 tonnes or 10,141 lbs. Over the same period, the length and body volume of her calf increased by 25% and 116%, respectively.
