The biological effect and underlying mechanism of Se in the brain of AD model mice. (IMAGE)
Caption
Many inorganic and organic Se compounds, including sodium selenate, Se-Met , SMC , Ebselen, seleno-polymannuronate (Se-PM) and selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) have been investigated for their effects on AD in animal models, especially in 3´Tg-AD mice. All of them in their optimum dose ranges demonstrate the functions of prevention and treatment of AD pathology, including suppression of Aβ generation, reduction of tau hyperphosphorylation, protection against neuronal damage, and improvement of learning, memory, and cognitive impairment at the onset stage or during the progression of AD.
