The photograph on the left shows a protein-based biomaterial (orange) suspended between the clamps of a universal traction testing machine, used to characterize mechanical properties (biomaterial and machine designed in-house). The immunofluorescence images show the nuclear and cytoplasmic localization of the protein YAP in human retinal cells and how this distribution is determined by the mechanical properties of the material used as the extracellular matrix.
