The roots of immigration to the Japanese Archipelago (IMAGE)
Caption
During the Yayoi period, immigrants from the Korean Peninsula admixed with the Jomon people, leading to the formation of the ancestral population of modern Japanese people. These immigrants possessed both East Asian-related and Northeast Asian-related genetic ancestries, which is why modern Japanese people have three genetic ancestries: Jomon, East Asian, and Northeast Asian.
