(a) The curves denote the monthly mean Potential Vorticity Anomalies (PVAs) from December 1979 to February 2020. (b) The piecewise linear fittings of annual winter and zonal mean PVAs averaged over 60°N–90°N at different height ranges in the fore and latter parts of the 42-year period. The purple, green, yellow, and red lines are for the relative trends at the heights of 30-10, 20-10, 10-7, and 10-5 hPa, respectively.
