シロアリ2種の頭頂部にある防御液を分泌する泉門の比較。害虫種のC. gestroi（写真左）と非害虫種のD. longilabius（写真右）。以前は、シロアリ科には、頭頂の泉門から細い溝が伸びている種（D. longilabius）と伸びていない種（C. gestroi）の両方が含まれていたが、系統解析により、C. gestroiのような溝のない種が除外されたことで、この矛盾が解消された
