Ａ．学生らはfMRIスキャナー内のコンピュータ画面上の一連の画像を観察。 正方形の後は決して報酬（コインの入った瓶）が現れない。 ダイヤモンドの形が現れた後は、報酬が66％の割合で与えられえる。Ｂ． ADHDを持たない生徒の場合、待っている間に線条体（赤い円で示されている部位）が明るい色に点灯するが、報酬が出ている間は点灯しない。 Ｃ．ADHDを持つ学生の場合、実際にコインの入った瓶を見たときに線条体（赤い円で示されている部位）が点灯するが、報酬を待っている間に点灯は見られない。 両方の画像（Ｂ，Ｃ）において、より明るい黄色はより大きな活性化を示す。
