In the presence of food (blue), bacteria (white) swim straight, then change orientation (tumble), and follow this pattern over and over again. This study shows that enzymes (red) move in the same way, but after reacting with substrates (from green to yellow), they continue to run-and-tumble away from the higher concentration of substrates.
