Two-Phased Clot Clearance Method May Hinder and Help (2 of 7) (IMAGE)
Caption
Extravasation of a microsphere from the renal pelvis microvasculature is shown. Confocal imaging of the mouse renal pelvis 7 days post-embolization shows a 15-μm microsphere (red) that had extravasated and was surrounded by renal macrophages (green). Renal vessels are labeled with CD31 antibody (magenta). This image relates to a paper that appeared in the March 5, 2014, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. J. Grutzendler at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and colleagues was titled, "Angiophagy Prevents Early Embolus Washout But Recanalizes Microvessels Through Embolus Extravasation."
