NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite passed over Hurricane Jerry and the VIIRS instrument aboard captured this image of the storm on Sept. 20 at 12:42 a.m. EDT (0442 UTC). Suomi NPP found that the strongest thunderstorms around the center had cloud top temperatures as cold as minus 70 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 56.6 Celsius).
