Hotspot Volcanoes on Venus (2 of 2) (IMAGE)
Caption
The colored overlay shows the emissivity derived from VIRTIS surface brightness data, acquired by ESA's Venus Express mission. The high emissivity area (shown in red and yellow) is centered on the summit and the bright flows that originate there. This image relates to an article that appeared in the April 8, 2010, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. S.E. Smrekar at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, was titled, "Recent Hotspot Volcanism on Venus from VIRTIS Emissivity Data."
