Location of amino acid substitutions on the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. A mutation in the amino acid Gly614 was the result of one protein, aspartic acid (D), mutating to glycine (G) (purple cell), which may have driven COVID-19's transmissibility rates as it surged through Houston in mid-May.
