Many caves and rockshelters, such as Jerimalai shelter, are located in the uplifted Pleistocene reefal terraces at the east end of the island of Timor. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 25, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. O’Connor of Australian National University in Canberra, ACT, Australia, and colleagues, was titled, “Pelagic Fishing at 42,000 Years Before the Present and the Maritime Skills of Modern Humans.”
