A roadmap for prioritising new antibiotic candidates. (IMAGE)
Caption
The proposed framework outlines four stages of antibiotic development: screening new compounds, assessing resistance risk across five key parameters, classifying candidates into five risk categories, and using these results to guide development decisions. Depending on their resistance profiles, compounds may be prioritised for further development, optimised to reduce resistance risks, or deprioritised before costly clinical trials.
