Building an off-grid desalination plant (VIDEO)
Caption
Wongutha Christian Aboriginal Parent-Directed School can’t connect to a water grid. Facing a choice between trucking water in daily or shutting down, the school installed a solar-powered desalination unit that was able to fit inside a shipping container. It’s one of four community-scale trial sites in WA testing whether small, intermittent desalination can keep remote communities supplied by using groundwater. The Wongutha CAPS site is part of the WaterSmart Farms project with Murdoch University, DPIRD, Water Corporation, the National Water Grid Authority and Mörk Water.
